The Labour Education Promotion Meeting for Primary and Secondary Schools was held in Dachong Town by the municipal education departments on December 7. The spokesman of Qibei Primary School introduced various labour education classes in terms of farming, fabric art, cooking, laundry, storage and etc.
Qibei Primary School covers an area of 104 mu (over 6.9 hectares) and has a total of 970 students. The daily cleaning of the schoolyard is jointly done by all teachers and students. The greenhouse used to be a patch of wasteland in the northwest of the school. A few years ago, some teachers began to plant fruits and vegetables there, attracting some students to join in.
Principal Zhou Jingzhao said that in 2015, teachers developed agriculture-based curriculum for students and published a textbook "Being a Young Modern Farmer". Today, each class is responsible for their own field. The municipal agricultural departments also provide seeds, vegetable shoots and insecticide for the school and send experts for in-person guidance.
In addition, there are courses for fabric art, cooking, laundry, storage and other life skills appropriate for each grade.
