The Bicycle Transportation System Plan of Zhongshan, compiled by the Zhongshan Bureau of Natural Resources, was approved by the seventh session in 2022 of the Zhongshan Territorial Plan of National Land Committee on September 27.

In consideration of Zhongshan's bicycle transportation features and future needs, the Plan stipulates the development of urban cycleways on the basis of land use and traffic statistics by using newly-built and rebuilt urban roads. Meanwhile, the Plan outlines the construction of a comprehensive urban bicycle transportation system that is integrated with the public activity space.

The Plan mentions that Zhongshan plans to build the first model cycleway along the Baishichong River. The cycleway that is connected with Qijiang Road to the west and Xiangshan Road and Xiuli Lake to the east will be a special path for cycling linking such elements as mountains, seas, rivers, lakes and the city.

In addition, the Plan also suggests Zhongshan to build cycling tracks and venues and organize municipal and provincial cycling events so as to develop into a cycling event base within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
