Till the end of 2005, Zhongshan had had 32,000 hectares of mountainous regions. Forests, farms, gardening, greening along the roads constitute the forestry ecological system of Zhongshan.

The volunteer tree-planting activities plays a significant role in raising public awareness of greening, expediting the building of forestation and ecological environment, and promoting economic development and social civilization.
Tree-planting
In October 2001, Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government made the decision to improve the greening of villages and plant fruit trees on the slope of hills below 25-degree gradient; after that, all towns and districts put the plan into action promptly.
Guinan Orchard in Wuguishan Mountain
Xingzhong Avenue, built in 1992, is the landmark of Zhongshan green and quality road. It runs 3.5 kilometers long and 50 meters wide, with an 11-meter-wide central green belt.
Public greenbelt
Zhongshan issued the Regulation on Protection and Management of Ancient Precious Trees, and increased the investment to improve living conditions and environment of ancient trees.
Ancient Banyan tree in the Southern District was awarded as “Chinese Famous Tree” by Central Afforestation (Greening) Committee.
