From January to July this year, the sales volume of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Zhongshan increased by 176.26% over the same period in 2020. Consumers directly benefited from tax reduction and exemptions for the purchase of NEVs, totaling over 87 million yuan.

Consumers who bought new energy vehicles were exempted from vehicle purchase tax (VPT) through such online channels as the Guangdong Provincial Electronic Tax Service and Guangdong Tax Service, accounting for over 74% of the total VPT business for new energy vehicles. Online taxation makes the tax processes related to the purchase of eco-friendly commodities more convenient and efficient.

To support the development of the NEV industry and promote automobile consumption, purchase tax exemptions for NEVs will be extended to December 31, 2022. Tax incentives also deliver additional benefits to consumers who purchase NEVs, such as halving the vehicle tax for energy-efficient vehicles and exempting new energy vehicles from vehicle tax.
