Ju Xiang Yuan Almond Cake is the most famous among Zhongshan local specialties due to its impressive taste.
Almond cake was initially produced by Yi Wei Lu Bakery in the early 20th century. But two or three years later, Ju Xiang Yuan Bakery sprung up and enjoyed the same reputation as Yi Wei Lu in making almond cake.Ju Xiang Yuan entered its heyday from 1920s to early 1930s, with its products sold to countries in America and Southeast Asia.
In 1931, the founder of Yi Wei Lu passed away leaving no successor, so the bakery closed its business. Since than, Ju Xiang Yuan took the lead in almond cake in Zhongshan.
In 1935,Ju Xiang Yuan Almond Cakewas awarded the Gold Prize at the International Food Exhibition in Honolulu, USA, winning honor for China.
In 1949, Ju Xiang Yuan changed its manufacturing process, not only maintaining the impressive taste but also makingalmond cakecrisper but smoother. With such changes and modern packaging, Ju Xiang Yuan Almond Cake was praised as quality product at both provincial and national levels.
In 1988,Ju Xiang Yuan Almond Cakewon another Gold Prize at the Hong Kong International Expo after competing with other world-famous food.
