The People's Government of Guangdong Province recently published the list of the eighth batch of Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) programs. Three programs from Zhongshan made the list, including the Ancient Ceramic Roof Tile Ridge Forming Techniques, Silk Figurine (Zhongshan Qiwan Golden Dragon) and Traditional Distilled Liquor Brewing Techniques (Shiqi Rice Wine Brewing Techniques).

As of now, Zhongshan has 51 ICH programs above the municipal level, including 6 national programs, 20 provincial and 25 municipal ones.

Ancient Ceramic Roof Tile Ridge Forming Techniques

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the ceramic tile ridge forming techniques were widely applied in high-relief pottery art decorations on the roofs of ancient buildings.

The decorations mainly feature motifs from myths, legends and dramas, which embody the unique architectural style in Lingnan area. At present, these techniques are mainly used in the restoration of ancient buildings and antique building decoration projects, and are highly representative and influential in the industry.

Silk Figurine (Zhongshan Qiwan Golden Dragon)

Silk Figurine (Zhongshan Qiwan Golden Dragon) originated in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, with a history of more than 300 years.

Qiwan Golden Dragon has been demonstrated in previous Zhongshan Charity Parade events and many other large-scale activities including CCTV's "Heart to Heart" program, Guangdong International Tourism Culture Festival, Guangzhou Asian Games Torch Relay, Shenzhen ICIF, and etc.

Traditional Distilled Liquor Brewing Techniques (Shiqi Rice Wine Brewing)

Traditional Distilled Liquor Brewing Techniques (Shiqi Rice Wine Brewing) originated in the Ming Dynasty. Shiqi rice wine comes from fermented soya beans,  has a 30% ABV, and is commonly consumed by the people in south China.

After continuous innovation and development, the annual output of Shiqi rice wine can be up to 20,000 tons. Shiqi rice wine products are popular in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and exported to Chinese communities in foreign regions.
